How To Add Sparkle To Your Holidays With Christmas Candles

Christmas candles set a tone, a mood, a warmth that says Christmas. They make any room look better.

There are many wonderful store-bought candles which come in various Christmas shapes, sizes and scents.

To embellish plain pillar candles:

*Fancy Pillar Candles

Plain pillar candles may be painted with any design such as, stripes, dots or snowflakes. Clean candle with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. Make sure it’s dry before painting. Mix one part acrylic paint with one part candle painting medium. You may also use glitter glue. Finish by tying a pretty wire ribbon on the base of the candle. You could even paint the ribbon to match the candle. Gold or silver paint would be very pretty.

One of the prettiest ways to put together quick Christmas candles for a decoration is to fill a glass container with:

  • Cranberries
  • Lemons/Limes
  • Peppermint Candy
  • Marbles
  • Stones
  • Ornaments
  • Rock Salt
  • Red Peppercorns
  • Beads
  • Sea Glass
  • Dried Green Peas
  • Green Sour Balls
  • Kumquats
  • Sea Shells
  • Nuts
  • Buttons

Stick a single candle or several candles down into the filled bowl. Any clean glass container will work..

Some examples are:

  • Hurricane Lamps
  • Champagne Glasses
  • Canning Jars
  • Glass Vases

One of the most charming Christmas candle holders can be made from apples and you can float them in water in a big punch bowl or any other kind that you like.

*Floating Apple Christmas Candles

Find pretty, red and uniformly shaped apples. They need to be uniform so they won’t turn over on their side. Cut a hole in the top to fit a tea light. The tea light must be flush with the top. Place several apple candles in water and let them float around. They are beautiful when lighted.

For a spectacular look:

*Luminaries

Remove the label from any size can you’d like. Fill the can with water and freeze. Punch holes around the top using a hammer and nail. You can even punch it about half way down. Dispose of the ice and fill bottom with sand or salt. Place candle (smaller than can) to give off a warm glow.

Warning: Be careful of the sharp edges inside of can when inserting candle.

Tip: You can use coffee cans, veggie cans, juice cans or new empty paint cans purchased from the paint store. Group different sizes together for an outstanding look.

You can come up with lots more creative ways to use candles and have lots of fun doing it.

WARNING: Never leave lighted candles unattended. Make sure they are extinguished before going to sleep or leaving the house. Don’t leave candles too close to flammable materials. When embellishing don’t put materials too close to the flame. Leave several inches of space at the top.
